BOSTON, September 16, 2024—The Boston Public Library Fund (BPLF) today announced that two new board members joined the nonprofit’s work to support the Boston Public Library (BPL), ensuring that it remains a strong and vital resource for the residents of Greater Boston.
The new board members began their three-year terms this month:
- Derrick Johns is Executive Vice President and Global Head of State Street’s Alternatives Investment Services Operations and Business Integration within Global Delivery. With more than 20 years of financial services industry experience, he has a proven track record of managing high-performing teams, developing and launching new product servicing models, and successful relationship management.
“State Street is a founding investor of the Fund, so it is an honor to help continue this partnership through my role on the Boston Public Library Fund’s Board of Directors,” says Johns. “I am committed to strengthening and broadening our efforts to secure private funding to elevate the Library’s mission to provide free access to resources, programs, and services for all community members.” - Merranda Logan, MD, MPH, is the Associate Chief Academic Officer at Mass General Brigham where she leads system-wide efforts to promote scientific discovery, drive efficiency in research administration, reduce costs, and innovate in graduate medical education. Having spent over two decades in the fields of healthcare and higher education, Dr. Logan brings a wealth of experience in strategic planning, program development, and outreach.
Dr. Logan is looking forward to highlighting the Library’s role in the community health space. “Given the Library’s critical role in public health and supporting healthy communities, I am excited to bring my professional experience to the Boston Public Library Fund’s Board of Directors,” said Dr. Logan. “We have an opportunity to build impactful partnerships that can advance health literacy, provide access to essential resources, and ultimately contribute to the well-being of all Bostonians.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome two new members to our Board of Directors who share a deep commitment to the BPL’s mission of empowering individuals to effect meaningful change in their lives and communities,” said BPLF Executive Director Paula Sakey. “Their extensive experience will be invaluable, and we’re excited to benefit from their expertise and insight.”
Private support of the Library is crucial in delivering bold and innovative programs that meet the diverse needs of Boston’s communities. “On behalf of the board, I extend a warm welcome to our new members,” said BPLF Board Chair Jeff Hawkins. “Their contributions will help the BPL accelerate its efforts to advance social and economic equity in new and impactful ways.”
