The $175,000 grant supports the creation of a Workforce Development librarian position and the expansion of programming. The program is part of the Library’s overarching theme — Repairing America — for 2021.
Workforce Development manages a range of programs across all 26 branches, with a focus on digital and racial equity and connecting job seekers with employers in an evolving workplace environment. Program areas are job and skills training, career prep, education and certification training, entrepreneurship, and financial empowerment.
Another emphasis is on mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy and workers. In July 2020, Massachusetts had an unemployment rate of 17.4 percent, the highest in the country. The program assists recovery efforts and helps those affected by the crisis.
Thank you to Hearst Foundations for supporting workers!
