Granite Telecommunications Helps Close the Digital Divide

We’re more reliant on the internet than ever before — to confirm our vaccination status, apply for a job, attend classes, socialize, and even to order groceries. Now, with the support of Granite Telecommunications, more Bostonians will be able to access the information they need to thrive.

Granite’s generous gift will enable the Boston Public Library to purchase additional Home Connectivity Kits — each consists of a laptop, hot spot, and a quick-start guide — for our patrons. Residents simply need their BPL Library Card to check out a kit for free.

“Forty-six percent of Boston households that make less than $30,000 a year don’t have a computer and 20 percent of all Bostonians have said they weren’t able to pay for their internet access,” says Ben Wind, the Fund’s director of corporate and foundation relations. “Granite’s generous gift ensures that we’re making strides to close the digital equity gap, and we’re grateful for our partnership.”
