April 11, 2026 – September 13, 2026 Leventhal Map & Education Center Gallery Central Library in Copley Square
Featuring the Boston Public Library’s eight extremely rare copies of the Declaration of Independence, rare maps, and other materials, Declarations: Printing a New Nation invites audiences on a journey through the fledgling United States during the summer of 1776, focusing on “the Declaration as news.”
This exhibition encourages visitors to consider a moment when the ink was not yet dry on the documents that established American independence—a period during which the United States itself was something new.
This exhibition was created in partnership between the Boston Public Library and the Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center.
Funding made possible by the Irene Haney Creative Enrichment Fund through the Boston Public Library Fund.
