Cummings Foundation Supports Library’s Social Services

The Boston Public Library Fund would like to thank the Cummings Foundation for its generous “Make a Difference Dollars Grant” of $50,000 to expand the Library’s social-services resources.

At a Zoom meeting in June, BPL President David Leonard, Director of Library Services Michael Colford, BPLF Executive Director Paula Sakey, and BPLF Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations Ben Wind were shocked when the Foundation presented the surprise check right there on the screen!

The Cummings Foundation’s support enables the Boston Public Library to broaden the scope of services for all patrons – including patrons experiencing homelessness and those struggling with mental illness. The Library will now develop new initiatives and expand innovative services to branch libraries.

Executive Director Paula Sakey said, “We are honored to be the recipient of this surprise funding to provide critical social services to BPL patrons. The Cummings Foundation’s generosity will strengthen our community and truly transform lives.”
