Community History in Action

With generous support from Bank of America, the Boston Public Library’s Community History Department is partnering with patrons to preserve and celebrate their histories.

“It’s truly a joy and an honor to bring a wide range of creative programs to life,” says Community History Supervisor Dory Klein. “Whether it’s through oral history workshops, documentary screenings, or networking events, our programs all share a common goal: to support patrons in documenting the stories of their lives and communities.”

Programming & Outreach Librarian Alea Stokes highlights one recent success: “We received a lot of interest in digitizing personal and family records, so we held a community scanning day where patrons could bring in family documents to be digitized.” After the event’s success, she adds, “we’re excited to host more scanning days in the future and continue expanding ways to serve our patrons.”
