BPLF Supports Intergenerational Program

With support through the BPLF’s Branching-Out Creative Catalyst Mini-Grants, the Connolly Branch is now displaying the bilingual (English/Spanish) mixed-media artwork and poetry created through a very special intergenerational program.

Third graders at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School teamed up with the residents of the Nate Smith House and poet Yara Liceaga-Rojas to celebrate their voices and answer the question What does community mean to you?

“By working with these two groups, we sought and fulfilled our objective to return and continue the Connolly Branch’s roots as a Latinx community space,” says the Branch’s Children’s Librarian Sujei Lugo.Offering these series of workshops was a reminder of the need and importance of BIPOC and community-centered programming in libraries.”
